The Magic Kingdom

My poor blog, how I've been neglecting you. It's like when a friend calls me, and I don't call back right away, and then I feel embarrassed that I didn't call back, so I just don't do anything. It's like that. Didn't write, thought about writing, had some good things to write about, but...you know...didn't.

All is well here in my tiny kingdom.

The boys and I drove through our old apt. complex this week. We had to drop a friend off there. As we pulled into the driveway, baby boy said, "We home? Is this home?" and Aka started feeling sorry for himself a little bit. "Mom, why'd we have to move? This was a good place? I had a lot of friends here." Honestly, the thought crosses my mind sometimes too. Well, truly I do think that the apartment was too small for us and I love our house and being able to have friends over comfortably. That is the best part of our house, not having to worry too much where we're going to fit one extra chair. But I did love the simplicity of apartment living, and the wonderful feeling of being able to save money every month. That is not happening here. Before my income was just gravy, whereas now it's a neccesity. That scares me. And I, with my tendency of shunning responsibility, really hate the burden of knowing I don't have a choice to work. Just praying that DH will be able to continue advancing in his workplace. Whatever the case, I do appreciate that DH manages all those icky financial questions so well.

Ok well, this is making me think a little too much about painful reality and I don't want to stress, so it's back to La-La Land for me. Can somebody please bring me my tiara?

Tylenol

Kelincha has a headache. The best cure for which is a super hot shower. But then I'll have to get out of said shower and my house will be too cold. And so, I have a headache.

2009 Review

Saw this here and thought I'd write up a similar post for myself. My memory is so bad, 2009 is already a blur, so I figure by writing this now, maybe next year I'll at least have these things to remember about 2009.

What random cool things happened in 2009?
First thing that pops to mind is meeting D at a wedding in New Braunfels. We drove down there and ended up sitting next to her and her daughter at the reception. Discovered that we were neighbors! It's been great getting to know her better, sharing playdates, and having a friend living a stone's throw away.

Aka got to be in the same class with his bf for another year. He played t-ball for the first time. Said a million and one funny things. Grew up too much!

Uka turned 3! Finally started talking in somewhat understandable words and sentences at the very end of the year. Obsessed by trains, "bulldo"s, big trucks. Greets me each morning by coming in to whatever room I'm in with his arms outstretched for a hug. He says, "I need me!" when he wants his mommy.

First family vacation. We spent time in beautiful Arkansas. So refreshing!

Favorite Books of 2009
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was one of the last books I read this year, but it was gorgeous.
Myth of a Christian Nation blew my mind.
The Year of Living Biblically and The Unlikely Disciple helped me to see the church and Christian culture with the eyes of an outsider. Both were quite thought-provoking.
World Made by Hand was another lovely book.

Did you move anywhere?
We moved into our new house. We stayed in the same neighborhood where we were living, in fact, the same neighborhood in which I grew up, but it still felt like a big change. And for the better! We've enjoyed getting to have people over, meet our neighbors, have more space for kids to play in.

Describe your birthday
DH threw me another "surprise" party! Seriously, I think I created a monster! The house was a mess, and I saw a text on his phone at the last minute that tipped me off in case I had any remaining doubts. When DH saw that I knew there was going to be a party, he asked me to stay and help cook (instead of going to coffee with my friend) Ha! Anyway, it was a fun party and I received a beautiful ottoman from World Market that I'd been salivating over and never thought I could afford to purchase.

What's something you learned about yourself?
My feelings still get hurt way too easily by things that shouldn't bother me.

Made new friends?
Yes, I've made many new friends at church and around. I've actively sought to cultivate frienships. It takes a lot of work, but it's worth it of course.

What do you want to change in 2010?
Get rid of jealousy, foster contentment. Spend more focused time on my kids and hubby.
